Q: Is it possible to run an individual fundraiser?

A: Yes, but only under certain conditions. Here are some examples of what is and isn't permissible.

YES - My son needs to raise some money to cover his registration fees for the soccer team.

NO - My daughter is trying to pay for a senior road trip with some of her friends.

YES - I want to raise money for a new charity I created.

NO - My family is having financial difficulties and would like to ask our community for help.

YES - I want to run a fundraiser to benefit an organization that I work with.

In sum, individual fundraisers are permissible when they are part of a group like a sports team, school or church OR if they are for a charitable cause or to benefit an organization you belong to. NOT permissible are fundraisers to cover purely personal expenses.
